Vanguard Rotations

Trooper Vanguards have many different skills they can choose from when tanking or doing DPS. How a vanguard chains different attacks and abilities in combat determine how good of a tank or damage dealer they are.

Troopers use ammo for most of their attacks and abilities, this ammo gets regenerated over time but the lower the ammo they have the lower the ammo regenerates.

The key to playing a Vanguard effectively is to try to keep you ammo as full as possible all the time so you can continue to use abilities and attacks at a fast rate.

Vanguard Tanking Rotation:

Start with Mortar Volley (a high damage AOE attack), Storm and Smoke Grenade(damage reduction).

Single target Vanguard tanking rotation then begins:

Stockstrike > Hammer Shot > High Impact Bolt > Hammer Shot > Ion Pulse > Hammer Shot > Stockstrike > Hammer Shot > Sticky Grenade > Hammer Shot > Energy Blast > Hammer Shot

A little about each attack:

  1. Hammer Shot - is used a lot in the rotation and we use this a lot to keep our ammo high, the lower our ammo gets the slower ammo regenerates. The key to playing a Vangaurd is ammo management. Hammer Shot uses no ammo but does do damage and agro to the target so should always be considered the go to filler to avoid ammo issues. In a pinch ammo renewal can also be done with Recharge Cells, as things do happen..
  2. Stockstrike - An attack that does heavy damage, procs Ion Gas Cylinder and allow you to be able to use Rail Shot. You will want to use this everytime it is off of cooldown along with Rail Shot.
  3. High Impact Bolt - A high DPS attack that can only usable against incapacitated targets and targets suffering from periodic damage.
  4. Ion Pulse - 2% damage reduction debuff plus damage to target.
  5. Sticky Grenade- a high damage low ammo attack that also does AOE damage.
  6. Energy Blast - this attack actualy increases our ammo and should be cast whenever it is not off of cooldown as a way to keep ammo topped up.

Vanguard AOE Tanking Rotation:

Start once again with Mortar Volley (a high damage AOE attack), Storm and Smoke Grenade(damage reduction).

Multi Target Vanguard tanking rotation then begins:

Explosive Surge > Hammer Shot > Sticky Grenade > Hammer Shot > Explosive Surge > Hammer Shot > Stockstrike or High Impact Bolt > Hammer Shot > Explosive Surge > Hammer Shot > Energy Blast > Hammer Shot

A little about the attacks:

  1. Explosive Surge - One of our main damage attacks we use with multiple targets, it effects up to 5 targets.
  2. Hammer Shot - Once again this attack does not generate deplete ammo so use this whenever you are down ammo, makes a good filler between your other attacks.
  3. Sticky Grenade - This grenade does a lot of damage and should be used whenever it is off of cooldown.
  4. Energy Blast - is an attack that actualy increases our ammo and should be cast whenever it is not off of cooldown after another attack that expends ammo.
  5. Stockstrike and High Impact Bolt - can be used to increase single target threat.
  6. Not there at the end of our rotation depending on your ammo you maybe able to replace a Hammer Shot with a Explosive Surge(if you want to do more AOE damage) or a High Impact Bolt(to increase threat on your target), this may not be posible due to your ammo situation but keep this in mind. Remeber to use Recharge Cells if you get in trouble ammo wise.
